Yukon University Instructor Kevin Kennedy to seek Yukon NDP Nomination in Marsh Lake-Mount Lorne-Golden Horn
August 20, 2025

Territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Carcross/Tagish First Nation, Marsh Lake, Yukon — Yukon University instructor Kevin Kennedy announced he is seeking the Yukon NDP nomination for Marsh Lake-Mount Lorne-Golden Horn for the 2025 territorial election.
“For years, I’ve seen our community get left out and left behind when it comes to healthcare, from lack of ambulance services to gaps in home care and so much in between,” said Kennedy. “We deserve an MLA who will step up and bring care closer to home. That’s why I’m running with Kate White and the Yukon NDP.”
Kennedy teaches at Yukon University, where he is a Senior Instructor and Coordinator, working with students at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre campus. He has also served as the Chair of the School of Academic Skill Development and the School of Liberal Arts.
In his community, Kennedy has been elected Chair of the Mount Lorne Local Advisory Council and sits on the Association of Yukon Communities Board of Directors, where he has advocated for stronger services for residents in the riding. A long-time volunteer firefighter and certified instructor with the Mount Lorne Volunteer Fire Department, he has trained others to keep the community safe.
Before his time in the Yukon, Kennedy was elected as a city councillor in Yellowknife, where he worked on the council to lower costs for residents while surpassing emissions reduction targets.
Outside of politics, Kennedy has worked as a professional playwright for more than two decades and is actively involved in the Yukon’s thriving arts community. His work has been presented locally by Gwaandak Theatre at the Magnetic North Theatre Festival and festivals across Canada.
He and his wife live in Mount Lorne, where together, they raised two foster sons.
“Kevin has stepped up for his neighbours in so many incredible ways,” said Leader of the Yukon NDP Kate White. “Now, he’s stepping up to run with our team in the territorial election, and I couldn’t be more excited for the people in his riding. For too long, the government has told families in these communities that they should go without, or drive into Whitehorse for the care they need,” said Leader of the Yukon NDP Kate White. “With Kevin and a Yukon NDP government, we can change that and make healthcare better.”
