Yukon NDP’s Statement on Canada Day

Yukon NDP Leader Kate White issued the following statement on the occasion of Canada Day:

“Today, the Yukon NDP joins Yukoners and Canadians everywhere in celebrating Canada Day.

Canada Day is an opportunity for friends and family to come together and spend time with loved ones. It’s a day to remind ourselves of the values we want to promote as a country – diversity, inclusivity, kindness and compassion.

It’s also a day to reflect on what Canada Day means for Indigenous people in Canada – the anniversary of colonization, displacement, and genocide. We cannot mark this day without acknowledging the darkest parts of our shared history, so that we can walk the path to reconciliation and justice together.

On this Canada Day, the Yukon NDP celebrates hope and optimism for a brighter future for all — for a Canada where no one is left behind.”
