Yukon NDP Support Safe at Home Call to Actions

Whitehorse, YT — The Yukon NDP is adding its voice to the Safe At Home Society’s (Safe At Home’s) 10 calls to action, starting with Safe At Home’s call to ban no-cause evictions in the Yukon.

The Yukon is one of only two jurisdictions in Canada that still allow no-cause evictions.

In all other jurisdictions, landlords must provide a reason for eviction, such as moving in a family member. In the Yukon, tenants can be evicted with no reason at all.

“The Liberal government has the power to end no-cause evictions right now. They’re choosing to let people get evicted. They are choosing to let people lose their homes and be at risk of homelessness,” Emily Tredger, MLA for Whitehorse Centre, said Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Tenants in the Yukon deserve better protections. No one should be afraid of losing their homes without a reason.

Once again, the Yukon NDP is calling on the Liberals to do the right thing: end no-cause evictions to better protect all tenants.
