Yukon NDP stands in solidarity with workers

WHITEHORSE, YT — Today, picket lines were formed across the country, as the negotiations between the federal government and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) reached an impasse.

The Yukon NDP expresses solidarity with affected workers and urges the federal government to offer fair wages and fair working conditions to their workers.

“All workers need and deserve fair wages and good working conditions. No government should be trying to shortchange their workers — these workers are often at the frontline of the public services we all rely on,” Yukon NPD Leader Kate White said.

In their statement, PSAC stated that, “We truly hoped we wouldn’t be forced to take strike action, but we’ve exhausted every other avenue to reach a fair contract.”

“This should also be a wake-up call to the territorial government. Negotiations here in the Yukon reached an impasse earlier this year. Many public servants have been at the frontline of the pandemic for the last three years, they deserve better,” White added.

“We also want to extend our appreciation to those Yukon Government workers who share a worksite with striking workers and are respecting and joining the picket line.”

As always, the Yukon NDP stands in solidarity with workers.
