Territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council, Whitehorse, Yukon – The Yukon NDP has announced its final two candidates, making the party the first to fill its slate for the 2025 territorial election. Dustin McKenzie-Hubbard, a Family Support Worker and Champagne and Aishihik First Nations citizen, is running in Whistle Bend South. Kai Miller, an energy advisor and former small business owner, is running in Lake Laberge.
McKenzie-Hubbard, a father of two young daughters and caregiver for his sister and nephew, is a lifelong Yukoner. He currently works with Shäwthän Näzhì, providing land-based healing programs to First Nations families. Before this, he ran a small business, worked as a researcher at Yukon University and was a part of the language learning cohort at the Yukon Native Language Centre.
McKenzie-Hubbard has experienced firsthand how the healthcare crisis has hurt Yukon families, having had multiple family members undergo preventable medical emergencies because they didn’t get timely care.
“No family should go through what ours did,” Hubbard said. “With Kate White and our Yukon NDP team, we can make sure every Yukoner has better healthcare. That’s why I’m proud to be running on Kate’s team this election.”
“Dustin has seen how the Liberal and Conservative Yukon Parties have hurt healthcare – and he sees the solutions,” said Leader of the Yukon NDP Kate White. “I’m honoured to welcome him to our Yukon NDP team.”
Miller currently works as an Energy Advisor, helping Yukoners improve the efficiency of their homes and lower their utility bills. A former small business owner, Miller founded and operated a beloved local brewery, where he experienced first-hand the rewards and struggles of running a business in the Yukon.
“Having owned a small business, I know how much hard work goes into building a good life here,” said Kai. “Right now, too many Yukoners are struggling to make ends meet. I’m running with the Yukon NDP to make life more affordable and build a Yukon where families and small businesses can thrive.”“Dustin and Kai are exactly the kind of Yukoners who make our team strong,” White added. “With Yukon NDP candidates in every single neighbourhood, every Yukoner will be able to vote for someone they can count on. Every one of our candidates is ready to make healthcare better and lower your costs, as a part of a Yukon NDP government.”
