Yukon NDP celebrates National Indigenous Peoples’ Day

“Today, the Yukon NDP is celebrating National Indigenous Peoples’ Day and honouring the contributions of Indigenous peoples in the Yukon and around the world.

This year in the Yukon, the holiday is marked by the start of the territory’s first search for unmarked graves of former students at the site of the Choutla Residential School in Carcross.

I always look forward to taking part in the celebrations of National Indigenous Peoples’ Day, but today I also reflect on the heartbreaking work being done in Carcross. We have a long road to walk towards Reconciliation, both through truth-seeking and celebrations.”
