Yukon NDP calls out Yukon Liberals for disrespecting Yukon Educators
December 19, 2024
WHITEHORSE, YT — Yukon NDP Leader Kate White is calling out the Yukon Liberals for failing to
work with education partners on developing Educational Assistant (EA) and Teacher on Call
(TOC) training plans.
The Yukon Association of Education Professionals (YAEP) have raised concerns that the Liberal
Government’s training plans leave many gaps. The plans do not include any additional
investments in EA training, ignore operational realities of schools, and have been developed
without the input of Yukon Education Professionals.
“I’ve just heard from YAEP that the proposed training plans won’t meet students’ or educators’
needs and that the Government has been unwilling to meaningfully consult or collaborate with
them. This is unacceptable” said White,
“If the Minister thinks she can get by with the bare minimum, I’ll remind her that the Yukon NDP
expects a lot more for Yukon kids and Yukon educators.
“This isn’t about just checking off a box. It’s about ensuring that Yukon kids have safe and
supportive learning environments. I’m urging the Liberals to meaningfully work with Autism
Yukon, YAEP, and the Learning Disabilities Association of Yukon as required in the 2023 CASA,”
White added.
