Yukon NDP calls on premier to work with Yukon Medical Association amid stalled negotiations
July 11, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, July 10
Whitehorse, YT — Yukon NDP leader Kate White issued the following statement Thursday, July 10, after the Yukon Medical Association (YMA) called on Premier Mike Pemberton to work with Yukon doctors amid months-long negotiations between the association and the Yukon Liberal Government:
“The Yukon Medical Association has consistently worked in good faith with the Yukon Government to bring forward solutions to address the deepening health-care crisis. It’s incredibly disappointing and concerning to hear the Liberal government’s lack of urgency and willingness to act on these solutions.
“Yukoners’ health should be the Liberals’ Number One concern. We’re all painfully aware of the crumbling state of our health-care system, even after the YMA handed the Liberals perfectly workable health-care solutions.
“Over 4,000 Yukoners are waitlisted for family doctors. That has to be a top priority, and it’s deeply concerning that Premier Pemberton’s Liberals aren’t working with doctors.
“Yukoners deserve safe, sustainable healthcare, and we have the solutions to make that happen. A Yukon NDP Government will listen to health-care experts and deliver better healthcare for all Yukoners.”
The Yukon NDP is calling on the premier to respond to the YMA’s calls for action on the health-care crisis, and make a fair deal with the YMA.
