Tiara Topps, Yukon Nurse, seeks Yukon NDP nomination in Whistle Bend North
May 13, 2025
Territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation & Ta’an Kwäch’än Council, Whitehorse, YT — Tiara Topps, a licensed practical nurse (LPN), has announced her run for nomination as the Yukon NDP candidate for Whistle Bend North in the 2025 territorial election. Joined by Yukon NDP leader Kate White outside Whitehorse General Hospital, Topps shared how her experience in healthcare led to her decision to run for the Yukon NDP.
“Under the current government, I’ve seen healthcare in the Yukon go from bad to dangerous,” said Topps. “Frontline workers are being disrespected and overworked, and people aren’t getting the care they deserve. I’m running for the Yukon NDP because when health-care workers like me needed help, it was Kate White who showed up for us, every time.
Topps has worked as a nurse in the Yukon for seven years, caring for seniors at Whistle Bend Place and patients across Whitehorse with the Yukon Home Care Program. Topps was also a leading voice in the call to end the Liberal government’s unfair treatment of Yukon nurses. She currently lives in Whistle Bend North, where she and her partner are raising their young son together.
Under the Liberal government, thousands of Yukoners have been stuck on a years-long family doctor waitlist, surgeries have been cancelled, and wait times have skyrocketed. For years, frontline workers, union representatives, and the Yukon Medical Association have called out the Liberal government for inaction, underfunding, and disrespect to workers.
“Yukoners deserve a government that actually listens to the people delivering care, and I’m honoured that one of them is joining our team,” White said.
“Tiara is a fierce advocate for her patients and her fellow healthcare workers. With a Yukon NDP government, we’ll work together to fix healthcare, by giving people on the front lines the respect they deserve.”
