Despite Currie Dixon’s claims of having no relationship with Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada, tens of thousands of dollars in political donations, former Conservative staff and candidates, and the hosting of a Pierre Poilievre meet-and-greet make it clear: the Yukon Party are Conservatives.
“As Yukoners head to the polls, you deserve to know exactly who is behind the parties asking for your vote,” said Lane Tredger, Yukon NDP candidate for Whitehorse Centre. “With the Conservative Yukon Party, it’s big mining corporations like Victoria Gold, American donors, and politicians like Pierre Poillievre.”
According to Elections Canada filings, Conservative Yukon Party candidates have donated a collective $36,176.42 to the Conservative Party of Canada over the last decade – including a $1,250 donation from Mr. Dixon.
But funding their federal cousins isn’t the only way the Conservative Yukon Party is helping Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives.
Candidates like Brad Cathers have been long-time champions of Pierre Poilievre’s positions while others like Patti McLeod, Linda Benoit, and Ted Laking have actively campaigned to elect CPC candidates in the territory – Laking was also a former CPC candidate for nomination in the Yukon and a former staffer in Ottawa under Stephen Harper, while Benoit was a previous campaign manager for the Conservative Party of Canada.
Conservative Yukon Party Chief of Staff Danny Macdonald was acclaimed to the Conservative Party of Canada’s national council in 2023, while candidate Yvonne Clarke hosted a meet and greet for the federal Conservative leader.
Earlier this year, Yukoners came together to overwhelmingly reject Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative politics. This election, Yukoners have an opportunity to do the same for our territorial election.
