Kate White: “This election is about healthcare”

 October 2, 2025

Whitehorse General Hospital, Territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council, Whitehorse, Yukon – Today Yukon NDP Leader Kate White joined her team of candidates to kick off the 2025 election with a clear message: this election is about healthcare.

“Every door our team has knocked on, in every community, we hear the same story from Yukoners. Whether you’re a frontline worker feeling burnt out and disrespected, or a parent who’s waited too long for a family doctor, or a community member who’s seen your health centre’s doors close – you deserve better healthcare.”

White framed the election as a choice between the parties who’ve made healthcare worse – or a Yukon NDP team with a track record of working with doctors, nurses and patients to deliver better care.

“The Liberals have driven up wait times and the Conservative Yukon Party spent years fighting with healthcare workers, First Nations and community leaders,” said White. “Yukoners deserve a team you can count on.”

White has campaigned for months ahead of the long-awaited writ drop, announcing candidates and major campaign commitments to make healthcare better. Last week, she announced the first plank in her plan to retain and recruit more healthcare workers to the territory.

White’s campaign has been endorsed by healthcare workers, including those who work in emergency rooms, the Yukon home care program, the surgical unit and ambulance services.

“Yukoners know me, and they know that I deliver on what I promise. Our Yukon NDP team shows up for people in every part of the territory. This election, Yukoners can vote for a government they can count on.” said White.
