Kate White launches Yukon NDP’s costed platform: a plan Yukoners can count on to make health care better and lower costs

Territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council, Whitehorse, Yukon – Yukon NDP Leader Kate White launched her party’s costed election platform today – a plan she says Yukoners can count on to make health care better and lower costs.
Speaking in front of the Yukon Legislative Assembly with her team of candidates, White emphasized that the Yukon NDP’s plan is rooted in the stories and experiences of Yukoners from every corner of the territory.
“Politics is about people, and so is this platform,” said White. “Our plan is made up of the thousands of stories Yukoners have shared with our team, in every part of the territory. We’ve listened, and we’ve built a plan that reflects what people have told us they need.”
White was joined by members of the Yukon NDP team: healthcare workers, educators, First Nations leaders, tradespeople, small business owners, and community advocates, who helped shape the plan.
“Every one of us has dedicated our lives to listening to Yukoners and working hard to make life better for you,” said White. “This platform is the result of that work, and it’s a plan Yukoners can count on.”
The Yukon NDP platform focuses on:
- Making health care better with more training spots, new clinics, and major investments in the territory’s hospitals.
- Lowering costs for Yukoners by stopping the energy rate hike, building more local energy through a call for power, introducing a universal school nutrition program, and expanding the Kids Recreation Fund so more children can participate in sports.
- Tackling the housing crisis by building more public and private housing and introducing fairer rules for renters.
White drew a sharp contrast with the other parties, pointing to a track record of ignoring Yukoners and misplaced priorities.
“The Liberals promise change but deliver excuses. They’ve disrespected healthcare workers and let health centres close. The Conservative Yukon Party fought with everyone from healthcare workers to First Nations – cutting care and driving up costs,” said White. “We can go back to governments that caused the crises we’re facing, or we can choose a team that listens, that hears your stories, and works with you on solutions.”
White framed the election as a clear choice for Yukoners on November 3rd.
“The question Yukoners need to ask themselves is this: Who can you count on to make health care better and lower your costs?” said White. “You can count on the Yukon NDP. Every single time.”
