Territory of Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation, Carmacks, YT — Colin Prentice, Lands Manager with Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation, joined Yukon NDP Leader Kate White on Thursday, May 22, to announce his run for nomination in Mayo-Tatchun for the 2025 territorial election.
“For too long, governments in Whitehorse have handed down decisions that don’t work for our community,” Prentice said.
“I’ve seen it as a teacher in Pelly Crossing, as a worker at the Minto Mine, and as a patient at the Nursing Station in Carmacks. The people who live here have the solutions, and they work hard every day. We know our community: What we need is a government that shows up and listens. That’s why I’m running with Kate White and the Yukon NDP.”
Prentice has lived in the Yukon for decades, having worked in mines in Mayo-Tatchun and as a teacher in Pelly Crossing. He is currently the Lands Manager for Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation and holds bachelor’s degrees in education and biological sciences from the University of British Columbia and the University of Alberta.
In his time living in the riding, Prentice has worked with local leaders to speak up for the community, including organizing events to support Na-Cho Nyäk Dun and Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation after last June’s Eagle mine disaster.
“When decisions get made for communities, they should be made by communities,” White said.
“That’s exactly what a Yukon NDP government will do.”
