FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, September 18, 2025
Territories of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council — Matthew Lien, award-winning small business owner, announced he is seeking the Yukon NDP nomination for Copperbelt North for the 2025 territorial election.
“I’m honoured to be running to serve my neighbours in Copperbelt North,” said Lien. “As a small business owner, I’ve seen firsthand how hard so many Yukoners are working to make ends meet and keep our territory running. In today’s economic environment, we need the most responsive government possible to help Yukoners to not just survive, but to thrive. That’s why I’m running with Kate White and the Yukon NDP.”
Lien is a proud father to four Yukon children, and is himself a lifelong Yukoner. For nearly 30 years, he has lived and run his business in Copperbelt North.
As the owner of Yukon’s longest running record company, Lien has produced multiple international, award-winning and multiplatinum records. He currently serves as a juror for the Juno Music Awards and the Western Canadian Music Awards. In 2021, Lien was awarded the Yukon Innovation Prize for his work to advance audio technology.
Lien has spent decades building up the music industry across the Yukon, serving on the boards of Music Yukon, Screen Production Yukon Association (SPYA), and Larrikin Entertainment. He has helped keep popular Yukon festivals running, including the Atlin Arts and Music Festival, and teaches music to youth and to Yukoners involved in the justice system.
Lien is passionate about lowering costs for Yukoners, and making services more accessible. Already, he has secured big wins for people — leading the push to expand city bus service to Sundays, making it easier for Yukoners to get to work and access healthcare every day of the week.
“We are so excited to welcome Matthew to our Yukon NDP team,” said Yukon NDP leader Kate White. “He’s worked hard to help make life better for Yukoners and has already helped lower costs for people in Copperbelt North and across the city. You can count on us to do even more together, as a Yukon NDP government.”
