Artist and Community Leader Katherine McCallum to seek Yukon NDP nomination in Whitehorse West
August 26, 2025

Territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council — Katherine McCallum, local artist and community leader, announced she is seeking the Yukon NDP nomination for Whitehorse West for the 2025 territorial election.
“For almost two decades, I’ve worked with artists, small businesses and community organizations to create more opportunities for Yukoners,” said McCallum. “Yukoners pour everything we have into making our territory a better place, but it’s getting harder for us to make ends meet and keep organizations running. I’m running with Kate White and the Yukon NDP to change this. Together, we’ll work with Yukoners to make it easier to for everyone to succeed in our territory.”
McCallum is an artist, a producer and a leading voice in the Yukon’s theatre and arts industry. She brings political experience to this race, having run as an NDP candidate for the Yukon in the federal election earlier this year.
Over nearly 20 years, McCallum has worked with artists, small businesses and local organizations to help grow a thriving theatre industry in the Yukon. As the founder and Artistic Executive Director of Larrikin Entertainment, she has created good jobs for local artists across the territory, telling stories by Yukoners, for Yukoners. She also serves as a theatre instructor at Yukon University. Before this, McCallum served on the board of the Yukon Arts Centre and worked as the Artistic Director of The Guild.
As a co-founder of Yukon Theatre for Young People and former producer of Yukon Summer Music Camp, McCallum’s commitment to the arts has also opened up new opportunities to countless Yukon youth — many of whom have gone on to build successful careers in the arts.
“We are so thrilled for Katherine to be running for our Yukon NDP team,” said Leader of the Yukon NDP Kate White. “Katherine has paved the path for so many Yukon workers to succeed in our territory, and I know she’ll deliver incredible things as a part of a Yukon NDP government.”
