Yukon NDP motion passes: ATCO will answer to Yukoners in the Legislative Assembly
October 8, 2026
Whitehorse, Yukon –
Yesterday, the Legislative Assembly passed a Yukon NDP motion requiring ATCO Electric Yukon to appear as witnesses before the Assembly this fall. The motion, brought forward by Yukon NDP Energy Critic Lane Tredger, means ATCO will have to answer the questions Yukoners have been asking about their power bills.
“I’m proud that we got this motion passed, because it represents a piece of what Yukoners have been asking for, which is clarity” said Tredger. “Yukoners are rightfully frustrated and anxious about their energy bills. People are getting bills that are sky high, that swing wildly from month to month, and that just don’t make sense. It’s important that ATCO is brought forward as witnesses to answer the questions Yukoners have.”
After the Yukon Party’s choice to direct ATCO to investigate itself on the billing issues Yukoners have been experiencing, Yukoners are left with more questions than answers.
“Because of MLA Tredger’s motion, Yukoners will have the ability to hear directly from ATCO about what is happening with their billing and how they plan to fix it,” said Yukon NDP Leader Kate White. “This is an important part of the accountability and transparency Yukoners deserve when it comes to their electricity billing.”
Hundreds of Yukoners have already signed a Yukon NDP petition calling for an independent review of ATCO and Yukon Energy billing, which will be tabled later this sitting.
